Cecile Arndt
In 1996 I discovered the magical world of patchwork.
I started sewing and designing quilts, exploring the exciting world of
scrap patch and the endless possibilities it has to offer. This seemed
to be the most challenging form for me, matching my practical personality
of using materials that were readily available to me.
Using all types of fabrics I discovered my intense love of colour combinations;
which knows no boundaries. The world of textiles opened a new door in
my life, one I am constantly exploring.
After experimenting with colours I soon developed an interest in design
effects to create original and dramatic pieces. With little to no formal
training I have been able to maintain my own unique style. I regularly
attend workshops where I have learned a most significant lesson, which
is to be free to explore all possibilities and most all to have fun. My
work alternates around wearable art and wall hangings. In recent I have
had the luxury of working with silk on a constant basis. Silk has now
become a major player in my art.
Through varying circumstances and as part of my journey in life I am now
able to indulge myself with this art form but also through workshops help
others discover the joy of silk painting with all its variations and possibilities.
I am now able to invite others to experience the amazing feeling of creating
their own masterpiece, be it a small painted piece to be hung on the wall
or a large piece of silk ready for their own special garment.
